Geek Fashion for the Pocket Pen-Protector Set

02/10/2009 · 1 Comment

Remember the stories your decrepit uncle Herb used to tell you about his salad days? He was one of the original Pascal programmers back in 1973 when his flared polyester bell-bottoms were all the rage and his mutton-chops and horned rim glasses did in fact contribute to his success in playing the field? He was the first to have a Magnavox Odyssey at home and used to seduce his pray with Pong and martinis. Later be became something of a stud when Asteroids and Space Invaders ware released. In the ’80s he began losing his hair and sadly morphed into the stereotypical programmer complete with the pocket pen protector. He still recalls his days with those video games with that special far-away look, but doesn’t play them anymore….and he’s a bigger geek then ever. Imagine his excitement when he discovers that he can now buy an Asteroids or  Space Invaders TIE! Yup, that’s right…classic video games are now available to wear around your neck. Best of luck getting laid. : )

Grammy logo

Did you know that the Grammy’s have among their list of categories:

  • Polka Album
  • Hawaiian Music Album
  • Tropical Latin Album
  • Regional Mexican Album

I certain didn’t, and don’t really know if I think it’s cool or totally gay (not that there’s anything wrong with being gay). The awards highlights are as follows:

Album of the Year: “Raising Sand,” Robert Plant and Alison Krauss (Rounder)

Record of the Year: “Please Read The Letter,” Robert Plant and Alison Krauss;  (Rounder)

Rap Album: “Tha Carter III,” Lil Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Motown)

Rock Album: “Viva La Vida” Coldplay (Capitol)

R&B Album: “Jennifer Hudson,” Jennifer Hudson (Arista)

Pop Vocal Album: “Rockferry,” Duffy (Mercury)

Alternative Music Album: “In Rainbows,” Radiohead (TBD)

Electronic Dance Album: “Alive 2007,” Daft Punk (Virgin)

Country Album: “Troubadour,” George Strait (MCA Nashville)

Contemporary R&B Album: “Growing Pains,” Mary J. Blige (Geffen)

New Artist: Adele

Song of the Year: “Viva La Vida ” (Coldplay) (Capitol Records)

Rock Song: “Girls in Their Summer Clothes”  (Bruce Springsteen), track from “Magic” (Columbia)

Rap Song: “Lollipop”  track from “Tha Carter III” (Cash Money/Universal Motown)

Country Song: “Stay,” Jennifer Nettles, songwriter (Sugarland), track from “Enjoy the Ride” (Mercury Records)

R&B Song: “Miss Independent”  track from “Year of the Gentleman” (Def Jam/Compound)

What is the difference between “record of the year” and “album of the year”? Jonas brothers still blow mightily, and I think it’s time that somebody tell Stevie Wonder that the long mini-braid just aint working any more…Dude, your hairline is receding back behind your ears…this is not a pretty look…all reverence aside.

Shepard Fairey Busted In Boston

02/09/2009 · 1 Comment

It’s remarkable that in the very city that prides itself as the birthplace of freedom, the place where the earliest Americans dumped tea in the harbor to protest unfair taxation as an assertion of their freedom as a free people, that the police saw fit to arrest Shepard Fairey on the way to his his first solo art exhibition. Can you say “Douchebag?” And no, I am NOT referring to Shepard Fairey, but to Boston’s finest.
